Frans was the best pupil of Gerard Dou. He followed his master's style, but with more vived colours.
He was one of the best 'fijnschilders' (= fine painters) of the town of Leiden in his era, who made perfect genre paintings and portaraits.
Already during his life, he was internationally admired .
His works can be seen in the world's most prestigeous museums:
