L'Infante Marie Marguerite, also called Marguerite-Thérèse

In 1957 Pablo Picasso also painted l'Infante Marie Marguerite in his own well-known style

The original of this painting, named « Portrait de l'Infante Marie-Marguerite,
fille de Philippe IV, roi d'Espagne (1661-1673) » is preserved in Paris, musée du Louvre.
Marie-Anne of Austria (1634-1696), niece and wife of Philip IV, was her mother.
Victor Hugo, the great French author, choose this painting as the starting point for his novel
"La Rose d'Infante". He compared the painting of this little girl with another painting,
that of her grandfather, king Philip II, known for his coldness and bureaucracy.

Marguerite-Thérèse d'Autriche, infante of Spain (12 july 1651 - 12 march 1673)
became empress of the Holy Roman Empire, queen of Germany, of Bohemia and Hungria and duchess
of Austria by her marriage to Léopold Ist of the Holy Empire. She was a halfsister of
Marie-Thérèse of Austria, queen of France and wife of Louis XIV. Her brother Charles II
was the last Habsbourg king of Spain.
